Lake Paran Community Center’s Stone Skipping Festival Returns

September 19 from 1-7PM

NORTH BENNINGTON, VT — Some people spend their Saturdays doing sensible things. On Saturday, September 19, 2026, Lake Paran Community Center will be encouraging people to throw rocks at a lake. Lake Paran is a community hub in North Bennington, Vermont, where people gather to enjoy the outdoors, spend time on the water, and occasionally discover that a flat rock can be surprisingly entertaining. Come join the Guiness Book of World Records holder, Kurt Steiner and others from around the country as they compete for the trophy at Lake Paran. Lake Paran Community Center’s 13th Annual Stone Skipping Festival will take place from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., bringing together stone-skipping enthusiasts, curious spectators, live music, and anyone who has ever looked at a lake and thought, “I bet I can make that rock bounce.” Some people can skip it once, while others can skip it clear across the lake! You have to see it to believe it.

Guests can enjoy an afternoon of stone-skipping action along with food trucks serving up festival fare and live music from the Olson Brothers Band. And yes, we sell perfect stones for you to skip! There is a small fee to compete, it’s free to come watch and enjoy the show. We always appreciate your donation.

Whether you are a seasoned stone skipper with a finely honed technique or someone who has never successfully gotten a rock to bounce even once, Lake Paran invites you to come out and give it a try. There will be impressive skips. There will be spectacular kerplunks. There will be cries of disbelief as stones skip gracefully across the water over 50 times.

So mark your calendar, bring your friends, and prepare yourself for an afternoon dedicated to one of humanity’s oldest and least necessary pastimes.
